Twixtor 8, the latest version of the popular video retiming software by RE:Vision Effects, has been released in commercial beta. This update introduces a new AI-trained algorithm that enhances the performance of the software, particularly for challenging shots in motion graphics and VFX work.
As a GPU-accelerated retiming tool, Twixtor is seamlessly integrated with various video editing and compositing applications. It allows users to slow down, speed up, or alter the frame rate of videos, transforming standard footage into impressive slow-motion shots through frame warping and interpolation.
Twixtor 8 stands out with its ability to reduce artifacts on problematic shots, such as fast camera pans or fast-moving objects with extensive motion blur. By utilizing a machine-learning-trained algorithm, the software effectively eliminates issues like “wobbles, gloopiness, or ghosting” that may occur during the retiming process, even when working with footage shot at standard frame rates.
To showcase the improvements, RE:Vision Effects has provided detailed comparisons between Twixtor 7 and 8 on their YouTube playlist. The videos demonstrate the enhanced output achieved when retiming tricky shots at different factors ranging from 3x to 8x.
Currently, Twixtor 8 is available in beta for various host applications, including After Effects, Autograph, DaVinci Resolve, Flame, Fusion Studio, Nuke, and Silhouette, on both Windows and macOS platforms. Support for Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Media Composer, as well as Linux compatibility, is scheduled for release in Q2 2024.
Pricing options for Twixtor 8 include regular licenses at $329.95, which are compatible with 10 host applications, and node-locked Pro licenses priced at $595. There is also the option of floating licenses for $892.50. These licenses offer additional features, such as the ability to guide the retiming process through mattes, tracking points, splines, or motion vectors.
